Let's Hibernate

Hibernation. The word seems to speak winter, cold, and ice. The animals slow down, the earth is asleep, and the neighbors we visit with over the fence have all migrated indoors. It's all for good reason. We get the snow, wind and cold and nobody enjoys being outside much. We had a couple weeks of sub zero weather which is never enjoyable. But, just because things are slow outside doesn't mean that indoors isn't a bustle of activity. This is the time of year when we tackle remodel projects in the house. We just completed two bedroom projects!

In order to provide our boys with more space in their small bedroom to invent with Legos and and make all their contraptions, we decided to absorb their closet and convert it into bunk beds.

We removed the old sliding closet doors long ago which continued to fall off their tracks. Most recently and which we don't have a picture of, we had moved a queen bed into the closet space but it took up way too much space in the room.

We found this old dresser at a thrift store and refinished it and converted it into the kid's toy storage. In order to still provide some storage space even with eliminating the closet, we took this dresser and built the lower bunk on top of it. It works fantastic!

Beutiful hardwood sits underneath our carpet. It's lovely!

The second project we took on was finishing the very last unfinished space in our house and converting it into a bedroom.

This was a room that was mostly used a storage space. For a few months, we converted it to a temporary girls bedroom.

The only "window" were four small glass blocks up in the corner. The first major step needed in this project was to cut an egress window. We were able to hire someone to do the concrete cutting but it was a challenge to find a window! With the building boom, there were none to be found!

We finally located one and installed it ourselves. After we installed the window, it was framing, drywall, tape and mud, painting, and carpet. We built a closet and loft bed and a built in desk. I don't have pictures of the process because I was too engrossed in drywall mud and paint.

It makes such a huge difference and we are so happy to say that our home is now completely finished! Now that the inside projects are complete, I can turn my attention to starting seeds and planning our garden!
